AWIPS2 is supposed to undergo operational testing and evaluation at a few
select NWS forecast offices starting in the summer of 2009. I have not seen any
examples of AWIPS2 other than what I read. It is being written in Java, and
will be heavily GIS based. Instead of having 5 fixed scales like AWIPS, AWIPS2
is supposed to automatically adjust the scale and resolution of the displayed
data depending on how far you zoom-in on an image. (Similar to Google Earth?)
I look forward to seeing examples and maybe a demonstration of how it will work.

I'm in the same boat... This the first I've heard of AWIPS2. We've been
developing a Java based application for the last 7-8 years for hurricanes
and topical cyclones. From what I've just read, Java seems to be a big
player in AWIPS2. Are there any sites dedicated to AWIPS2 yet?
