How much RAM?
Is LDM and GEMPAK on the same server??
if so that may be your problem...both are competing for memory

Subject: [gembud] Long delay in garp display of model file list
Has anyone seen this?
We have extremely long delays in garp displaying available times for a
given model choice in the Model Plan View selection window. I've
experimented with reducing the number of files in a model directory and
that seems to reduce the wait time. But sometimes the wait is a minute or
two, sometimes indefinitely. I thought maybe it was that there were no
named fdf directories in comet/garp/fdf/scalar or vector so I copied some
for them. eg., for a modelkey of eta218, I just copied the existing
eta212 directory, renaming it to eta218. That seemed to work for a bit,
but later it doesn't have any effect all.
The $GEMDATA is a 100 Mb network NFS mount from a FreeBSD 8.0 on a Dell
PowerEdge 2950 and 1 TB SATA drive on a SAS controller. The LDM is LDM
6.8.1; GEMPAK is 5.11.4 (pre Feb. '10) on Mac OS X 10.5.
This delay is also observed if $GEMDATA is from an older host running
FreeBSD 6.0 and 2 striped 300GB SCSI drives.
