gdradr, gddiag, nex2gini . . . and possibly others have issues with
64bit byte sizes.
You have two options that seem to work . . . mostly.
1) use 32-bit compile GEMPAK executables. If you use one of the many
RHEL variants (Fedora, RHEL, CentOS) - you will need to install
libgfortran for the 32-bit compiled executables to work on a 64bit machine.
2) don't use any of the non-GEMPAK libs packaged with GEMPAK, but
rather, edit the make config files so that none of the external libs are
used from the GEMPAK source, but are used from your OS.
