Re: [gembud] GEMPAK 6.6.0 Segmentation Faults (Mandriva 2011.0 64-bit)

Hi All

I've tried compiling OM 2.3.3 and 2.3.1 from source and have also tried the
Mandriva builds generously offered by James Murakami (rebuilding and testing
after each) and unfortunately I am still coming up seg faults.

In "gdb-ing" garp, nmap2 and nwx, I'm getting the following output -- all of
them are hanging on the following:

0x00007ffff5a2bc50 in __parse_one_specmb () from /lib64/libc.so.6

(which is greek to me and my people here.)

Any further ideas?

Thanks Much
Bill

Hi William,

Unless Michael James says otherwise, I think you'll need to compile OpenMotif
2.3.3(version 2.3.2 is flawed with respect to Gempak...2.3.1 is O.K. if you
have it).

We run Gempak6.6.0 on workstations running on Mandriva 2010.2(64 bit), and I
haven't seen the segmentation errors you describe. Garp does crash when you try
opening NIDS data or you clear/reset some graphics, which have station
overlays. However, since Garp isn't supported anymore, and you can do similar
things using Nmap, it's no big deal for us.

James

Do you recommend that we build a /usr/local/ install of it?

William,

I've seen this happen with NPROGS when OpenMotif is installed as a pre-compiled
RPM. Is that the case here or did you build OpenMotif from source?

We've been able to install GEMPAK 6.6.0 on our Mandriva 2011.0 (64-bit)

SFLIST) as well as the graphics scripts (e.g., SFMAP).

However, with the GUIs, we've had nothing but segmentation faults for NMAP2 and
GARP.

Sample for NMAP2:
/home/temp/gempaktest]% nmap2
Finished reading tables...
Resource File: /usr/local/GEMPAK-6.6.0_GNU64/resource/Nmap
(empty gray GUI comes on the screen very briefly and then…)
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Other Sample for GARP
temp@sky:/home/temp/gempaktest]% garp
G A R P - v2.1 starting...
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
(no flash of a GUI at all)

We get good results with NSHARP. NWX runs but does not access any of the data.

We have Open Motif 2.3.2 and the gcc/gfortran 4.6.1 compilers

Our Makefile seems to be pointing at the correct libraries and includes….

Has anyone else had luck building with Mandriva and recent versions of GEMPAK?
