Good work Daryl, and thanks for sharing it, Pete.
I also wrote a decoder, hosted at
https://github.com/mjames-upc/gempak-stations - which creates a GEMPAK
station table from the NCAR / RAL file (
http://weather.rap.ucar.edu/surface/stations.txt ). The new GEMPAK table
is available at
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mjames-upc/gempak-stations/master/sfstns.tbl
I updated a number of entries in $GEMTBL/stns/geog.tbl, adding countries
that were not present and updating many country codes to be consistent with
the NCAR / RAL file. The new GEMPAK geog.tbl is available at:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Unidata/gempak/master/gempak/tables/stns/geog.tbl
both will be included in the next GEMPAK release (7.1.0).
