Hi All-
Sorry for the late notice on this.
On Sunday, March 11, the US will go to Daylight Savings Time
3 weeks earlier than usual. The only affect we think this
on the IDV is the labels for times if you are not using the
default time zone (UTC) and do not have the latest version
of Java.
If you downloaded the IDV from Unidata and installed it
with one of the installers, the version of Java that
is included does not have the fix for the timezone change.
If you are running on a Mac or through Webstart, skip
to the next section.
To update the timezone tables for the installers, follow the
instructions below:
- grab the updateTZ.zip file from the Unidata FTP server:
ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/idv/updates/updateTZ.zip
and save it in the directory where the IDV was installed.
- unzip the file in that directory
- run the script to update the version of Java in that directory:
- on Windows, run the updateTZ.bat script by clicking on the
icon for it.
- on Linux and Solaris, run the updateTZ script.
For Mac OS and Webstart, the version of Java that is used is
the one installed on your operating system. You can check the
version being used in the IDV by going to the Help->About menu and
clicking on the System tab. The fix for this problem is included
in the following versions:
# 1.4.2_11
# 5.0_u6
If your version is less than the last number (i.e. 11 or 6), you'll
need to download a new version of Java to get the update or just
wait 3 weeks. ;-)
The next official release of the IDV will have the updated Java
installed.
