Hi-
A maintenance release (1.0.1) of the Integrated Data Viewer
(IDV) was made available for download today. You can find
information on downloading at:
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/idv/docs/UserGuide/IDV_starting.html
This is primarily a bug fix release, with a couple of new
features added in for good measure:
- new shapefile control allows you to load in the polygons
from an ESRI shapefile (.shp). This allows you the flexibility
to load in custom maps. This work is preliminary and will
be expanded for more efficient reading and access to the
metadata in the .dbx and .idx shapefile in a future release.
You can load in a shapefile from the Files/URL menu.
- improvements in the memory usage when loading Vis5D files.
Time subselection only reads data for the times requested.
- You can now select multiple files in a directory from the
Files/URL data selector and the IDV will try to create
datasources for them. If a particular datasource can take
multiple files, those will be grouped together and a single
datasource will be created. For example, this allows you to
load in a set of McIDAS images at once.
- better labelling of profiler time/height displays
- probe points/lines now automatically scale when you zoom in and out.
- each control legend now has a "Details" command which describes
the source of the data that is displayed in the depiction. You
can access this by right clicking on the legend and selecting
the details menu.
- users can now specify the units of the vertical scale in 3D displays.
This is currently limited to units convertible with meters
(km, ft, furlongs, fathoms, etc)
- users can now specify the preferred mode of sampling for all probes
(except the grid skewT) through the user preferences dialog. Choose
between VisAD's WEIGHTED_AVERAGE and NEAREST_NEIGHBOR modes.
For the data probe control, you can set the sampling method for
each parameter, with the default being the global user preference.
This is handy for checking on grid values when looking at a
textured color shaded plan view display.
- Major bugs fixed:
- surface data in netCDF files can now be read in again. This
broke in the 1.0 release
- when all data with times are removed from the display, the
time widget indicator now clears
- correct times are selected when subsetting times on datasets
with jumbled (i.e., non-ordered) times.
- bundles with McIDAS AREA files can now be restored.
- projections and other properties are now correctly restored when
loading in a bundle with multiple map display windows.
