All-
As part of a mandated effort to improve NOAA web security, the NOAA/ESRL
websites switched from using HTTP to secure HTTP (HTTPS) in mid-December.
This affects IDV users who were accessing data from the NOAA/ESRL/PSD
THREDDS and RAMADDA servers. The IDV nightly build now has fixes for
the problems that were uncovered at NOAA and in the IDV and is available
here:
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/downloads/idv/nightly/index.jsp
Specific fixes:
- the URL for the PSD THREDDS Data Server (TDS) is now:
https://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/thredds/catalog.xml
as Julien noted in a previous e-mail. The IDV main catalog now points
to this address.
- If you were using the NOAA-ESRL-PSD IDV plugin, you will need to
uninstall the old plugin (use the Tools->Plugin Manager menu, find it in
the list of installed plugins, and click the icon to the left of the
name (with the minus(-) sign on it), update your IDV to the nightly
build, and then re-install the plugin (Tools->Plugin Manager menu, find
it under Available Plugins->Customized IDVs).
- If you had the http version of the PSD TDS catalog in your list of
catalogs in the Catalog chooser, installing the new plugin will remove
the old references. Unfortunately, the method for adding in the new
versions in IDV doesn't work, so you'll need to manually add it (copy
the link above and paste it into the Catalogs section of the Catalog
chooser), or select it from the main idvcatalog.xml under Community IDV
Catalog->Community Data Servers. You can also add in the NOAA/ESRL/PSD
RAMADDA server catalog with this URL:
https://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/repository/thredds/Public/PSD+Datasets
If you have problems accessing the NOAA/ESRL/PSD servers through the
IDV, you can contact me directly.
