ext3 is a journaling file system. Basicly jfs is MUCH faster/easier to fix
after crashes.
If you want details try searching for ext3 and jfs on google, theres several
good places to read
about it.
I'm using it on my ldm/mcidas machine at work and don't notice any performance
loss.
