Due to the current gap in continued funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the NSF Unidata Program Center has temporarily paused most operations. See NSF Unidata Pause in Most Operations for details.
Certain Seagates have a known firmware issue that causes failures like that (multiple at the same time, seemingly). We went through and methodically flashed each drive last spring on a Western Scientific/EONstor array. Our neighbors down the hall on the .gov side of the door lost an array that way . Forget the details (drives affected, versions), but can dig if it's relevant. -- Peter Laws / N5UWY National Weather Center / Network Operations Center / Web University of Oklahoma Information Technology plaws@xxxxxx ________________________________________ From: ldm-users-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [ldm-users-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] on behalf of Dave Anderson KG4YZY [dave@xxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, February 19, 2010 23:01 To: 'Jeff Lake - Admin'; 'Gerry Creager'; 'LDM Users' Subject: Re: [ldm-users] sasquatch.tamu.edu is down I'm blaming it on Murphy. I had 5 disks in a 16TB san volume controller die today all within 20 minutes of each other - each with different problems too... Must be in the air... I know a few other guys who have had bad disc failures here lately.
