The School of Earth, Society, and Environment (SESE) seeks a full-time (12
month) academic professional as Information Technology Specialist. This
position reports to the Coordinator of IT and Research and provides assistance
for support of all IT functions for the School of Earth, Society, and
Environment (SESE) and its three academic units for both administration and
research.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in maintaining the Schools Linux-based computing cluster, storage area
network, Linux and Windows servers and networking, Assist in the day to day
maintenance and administration of the School's IT infrastructure, Assist
end-users of this IT infrastructure with problems and questions in a helpdesk
environment, Manage logistics and end-user support during and after transition
of the School to the University's upcoming Unified Communications system,
Create, maintain, and update end-user documentation, Periodically make edits to
the various websites operated within the School, Other related duties as
assigned by the School's Coordinator of IT and Research.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree required in computer, engineering, or other physical science.
Linux administration experience, working knowledge of at least one major
programming language, and basic knowledge of TCP/IP networking concepts are
required. The candidate must also have good written and verbal communication
skills as well as trouble-shooting abilities. Basic familiarity with and
ability to assist with Windows and Mac systems on occasion and experience with
numeric modeling, the FORTRAN language and parallel computation strongly
preferred. The ability to proactively and reactively identify and correct
problems in a self-directed manner and create and update basic web-page content
required. Familiarity with computing clusters, SAN storage technologies and the
ability to work with the Perl script language preferred.
Starting date: As soon as possible after closing date. Salary commensurate with
qualifications and experience.
