Hi all,

We have two AWIPS developer job postings currently open. If you could pass
the announcements below along to anyone you think might be interested, I
would be most grateful.

Thanks,

Ethan

Unidata AWIPS Developer - Software Engineer II

Unidata <https://www.unidata.ucar.edu/about/tour/index.html> is looking for
a scientific software developer to help us help our community of scientists
access the Earth system science data that fuels their research. You'll have
a chance to work with a great team at the Unidata Program Center and an
enthusiastic open source community to support, maintain, and develop
Unidata software projects. This position will focus on the Unidata AWIPS
<https://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/awips2/> package. AWIPS (Advanced
Weather Interactive Processing System) is the meteorological display and
analysis package used at US National Weather Service (NWS) forecast
offices. Unidata AWIPS is a version of the NWS AWIPS that has been modified
and repackaged for non-operational use for research and education.

Together with the rest of the Unidata AWIPS team, this position will
support, maintain, and develop the Unidata AWIPS package and the real-time
meteorological data streams available through AWIPS. In addition, the
Unidata AWIPS team is responsible for maintaining and advancing Unidata
AWIPS training materials and teaching Unidata’s AWIPS Training Workshops,
locally and periodically at regional workshops.

Unidata AWIPS Lead Engineer - Software Engineer IV

UCAR Unidata <https://www.unidata.ucar.edu/about/tour/index.html> is
looking for a scientific software developer to join our team as technical
lead for the Unidata AWIPS project. Unidata AWIPS
<https://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/awips2/> is a version of the NWS
AWIPS that has been modified and repackaged for non-operational use for
research and education. As technical lead, you will work closely with
NOAA/NCEP, NOAA/NWS, Raytheon, and the broader community to understand and
specify Unidata community needs. You'll collaborate with Unidata management
and other Unidata developers to evaluate the state of the AWIPS project,
determine next steps, and communicate this information to Unidata’s
governing committees and the broader Unidata community.

In addition, you'll work to improve and simplify the Unidata AWIPS
distribution and the installation process for use by the Unidata community,
and contribute to Unidata’s efforts to support the deployment of AWIPS in
other countries and national weather services. Alongside Unidata developers
and community members, you'll identify ways that AWIPS can be modified to
improve usability by University educators and researchers, working with the
NOAA AWIPS development team to document issues and consider solutions that
can be contributed back to the AWIPS codebase.
