Thanks, Daryl! Hopefully between Stonie's message and this RFC Memo, they can
get it turned on tomorrow.

Howdy Gilbert,
I noticed this entry in the NCO RFC Memo last week
RFC 13491 - Modify the NWSTG LDM Proc feed of Canadian radar data to only write
a selected group of sites to disk for TG (Telecommunications Gateway) ingest
(line 216) and headed dissemination of SDCN01 CWAO. This change will not impact
the incoming LDM data that is already being distributed internally.
SBNRC (Satellite Broadcast Network Review Committee) requested fewer sites be
sent on to TG/SBN due to high data volume. AWIPS is already able to handle this
data. This data was turned off early in the year due to saturation on the SBN.
Phase 1 of the realignment was completed on September 17 to make room for this
data. NCO will only be turning on sites that are nearest the US border with
Canada initially. To be implemented in College Park and Boulder on December 9
and 10 from 1500Z to 1600Z each day. The active TG ingest site will be done on
day 1 and inactive site on day 2.

There was a 5 minute outage this morning of NOAAport shortly after 14Z. Since
then, however, I have not seen any Canadian radar data on the SBN under the
header of “SDCN01 CWAO”.
I am wondering if they had an issue.

In addition to the METAR changes Mike Zuranski mentioned, we're now getting 23
of the 31 Canadian radar sites on the SBN!

From: Timothy Greten, Director

Subject: Change to NOAAPort / Satellite Broadcast Network (SBN) Channel
Alignment: Effective December 9, 2024
The NWS has studied the existing NOAAPort/SBN/NWWS channel alignment, bandwidth
usage, prioritization, and delay times.
This study identified that reorganizing the data on the various channels will
improve the timeliness of distributed products.
The first change recently implemented was to move gridded binary (GRIB), GRIB
two (GRIB2), and Binary Universal Form for the Representation (BUFR) formatted
data from the NMC channel to the
NMC2 channel. Refer to Service Change Notice (SCN) 24-54:
https://www.weather.gov/media/notification/pdf_2023_24/scn24-
54_channel_realignment_to_SBN_aaf.pdf for more details about this change.
The space freed on the NMC channel provided by the first change allows the next
change to occur, adding Canadian Radar data to the SBN. (Channel: NMC |
Priority: 0 | Bandwidth: 20 | Port:
1201 | PID: 101). However, only the following 23 of 31 available radars will
be added to minimize SBN impact, and reflect those adjacent to the United
States:
World Meteorological Organization (WMO) header: SDCN01 CWAO
CASSS - Silver Star Mountain, British Columbia (BC) CASAG - Aldergrove, BC
CASSM - Strathmore, Alberta (AB) CASSU - Schuler, AB CASBE - Bethune,
Saskatchewan (SK) CASFW - Foxwarren, Manitoba (MB) CASWL - Woodlands, MB CASDR
- Dryden, Ontario (ON) CASMR - Montreal River Harbour, ON CASET - Exeter, ON
CASBI - Britt, ON CASKR - King City, ON CASFT - Franktown, ON CASNE - Thunder
Bay ON CASBV - Blainville, Quebec (QC) CASSF - Ste-Francoise, QC CASMA - Mt
Apica, QC CASVD - Val d'lrene, QC CASCM - Chipman, New Brunswick (NB) CASGO -
Gore, Nova Scotia (NS)
Additionally, more WMO Headers containing model data, related to phase 1, were
discovered and need to move. (Channel: NMC |
Priority: 0 | Bandwidth: 20 | Port: 1201 | PID: 101) to
(Channel: NMC2 | Priority: 5 | Bandwidth: 30 | Port: 1203 | PID:
103):
^(MZ....) ^(LZ....): NAM Nested Model data
^(HC....) ^(HO....) ^(HP....) ^(HU....) ^(HV....): SSI GFS model
This data is expected to move on or about 1200 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)
December 9, 2024.If a Critical Weather Day has been issued, this change will be
postponed to 1200 UTC on the next non-Critical Weather Day for the following
dates:
December 10, 16 and 17, 2024.
No change is expected to the data feed at the receiver. If no issues are
experienced, the configuration will remain in place.
If any issues are identified, the changes will be evaluated, and a new
implementation date will be determined.
We encourage all NOAAPort/SBN/NWWS users to closely monitor this SCN during the
transition period for updated information. If you have any questions or
