OK Ed - thanks for looking into it. I'm running into another potential bug, probably in the HDF5 lib. I get
H5Oalloc.c:1350: failed assertion `oh->chunk[curr_msg->chunkno].gap == 0' Abortwhen trying to rename a variable in my python script. Haven't been able to trigger the error in a equivalent C program yet, but if I do I'll forward it.
