[netcdf-java] access to underlying file type in CDM

I am planning on adding a way to get access to the underlying "file type" in the the next release of the netcdf-java library: 

http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf-java/formats/FileTypes.html

Any thoughts or improvements to the table would be welcome.
