UNLIMITED dimensions are distinctly separate from
variable length dimensions; handling of UNLIMITED would
not be affected at all.

Is variable length the same thing as unlimited dimensions? I don't know
what an array sequence is. Please elaborate. The current unlimited
dimensions is very important to me.

In a future release of the netcdf java code I plan to get rid
of the variable-length dimension (e..g '*') in CDM
and replace it with ArraySequence. I would like to get
an idea of how this
will affect in our user community.
My expectation is that two groups would be affected:
1. Users who write their own IOSPs
2. Users who program directly against the netcdf-java API.
If you make use of variable-length dimensions in your work,
could you either post a note to this mailing list or send
a comment directly to me: dmh@xxxxxxxx
