                           POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT


    METEOROLOGICAL SOFTWARE SPECIALIST.  The School of Meteorology at the
    University of Oklahoma is seeking someone to coordinate and develop
    computing applications for a variety of teaching and research needs.
    The candidate will work with faculty, computing staff and students on
    developing software for  senior  and  graduate  synoptic  lab  courses,
    severe storm/mesoscale meteorology research and weather briefings, and
    on helping to design and implement new computing systems for the School.
    The position also involves overseeing the School's computing
    laboratories and network connections.  The candidate, if desired, may
    choose to spend part of his/her time on independent teaching and/or
    research activities.  The School is in the process of purchasing a
    PC DARRE workstation which will utilize FSL software and COMET case
    studies to do innovative classroom teaching with this pre-AWIPS system.
    The successful applicant will have the opportunity to help a major
    atmospheric science department lead the way in the use of meteorological
    workstations for classroom and research applications.
    QUALIFICATIONS:  B.S. or M.S. degree in Computer Science or Meteorology
    with experience in meteorological data ingest and/or software applications.
    Experience with NWS Family of Services data, NCAR Graphics, GEMPAK,
    PC-McIDAS or WXP is desirable as well as familiarity with VMS, UNIX,
    Macintosh systems, X-Windows, networks and graphical interfaces.
    Experience with high-end workstaions would be helpful.  SALARY:
    Commensurate with qualifications. Starting salary range is $25.7K to $33.1K
