Hi,
This message describes a change in the way the netcdfgroup and ncdigest
mailing lists will be administered. From now on, changes to subscriptions
will be handled by `majordomo'. Discussions of topics like this tend to
annoy people who subscribe for technical information, so please reply only
to me (russ@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) rather than the whole mailing list if you have
comments about this. Thanks.
(This information is also available to WWW clients from the netCDF home page
at http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/netcdf/.)

Information about netCDF Mailing Lists
These mailing lists are maintained to support discussion on matters of
common interest to netCDF users.
THE NETCDFGROUP MAILING LIST
The netcdfgroup@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx mailing list is intended for
discussions and announcements about netCDF interfaces, software, and
use. The volume of this list has recently averaged two or three
messages per day. A message you post to this mailing list will be seen
by several hundred people, so it's not usually appropriate for asking
simple questions about use. Such questions should instead be sent to
support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
THE NCDIGEST MAILING LIST
If you would prefer to get only a single daily digest of the postings
to the netcdfgroup mailing list, subscribe instead to the
ncdigest@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx mailing list. It's a digested form of the
netcdfgroup mailing list, containing the same messages but appearing
at most once per day instead of whenever anyone sends a message to the
group.
SENDING MESSAGES TO THE LISTS
Messages sent to netcdfgroup@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx will be distributed to
all subscribers, usually within an hour or two of being sent. These
are automatically accumulated and sent once per day as a single
message to the subscribers of the ncdigest mailing list. You should
not send messages directly to ncdigest@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
Please don't send a request to change your subscription or to change
your email address to the netcdfgroup mailing list, because it won't
work, and it may irritate other subscribers. All such requests should
be sent to majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx instead, as described below.
SUBSCRIBING AND UNSUBSCRIBING
You can begin or change your subscription to the netcdfgroup mailing
list by sending a message to majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx using a blank
subject. Include in the message body one or more of the lines below,
using your email address in place of jdoe@xxxxxxxxx.domain. If you are
sending the message from the account that you wish to subscribe or
unsubscribe, it's not necessary to include your email address on the
subscribe or unsubscribe line.
To subscribe to the netcdfgroup mailing list:
subscribe netcdfgroup jdoe@xxxxxxxxx.domain
To unsubscribe from the netcdfgroup mailing list:
unsubscribe netcdfgroup jdoe@xxxxxxxxx.domain
To subscribe to the ncdigest mailing list:
subscribe ncdigest jdoe@xxxxxxxxx.domain
To unsubscribe from the ncdigest mailing list:
unsubscribe ncdigest jdoe@xxxxxxxxx.domain
To retrieve the general introductory information for the mailing list:
info netcdfgroup
To get a synopsis of other majordomo commands:
help
To change your email address, send a message to
majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx to unsubscribe your old address, and
subscribe your new address. Similarly, to get the digested form of
the mailing list, unsubscribe from netcdfgroup and subscribe to
ncdigest.
ARCHIVES OF PAST MESSAGES
All past postings to the netcdfgroup mailing list are available via
anonymous FTP from ftp.unidata.ucar.edu in the mail-archives
directory. Access to a searchable index of these archives is available
from the netCDF home page on the World Wide Web, at
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/netcdf/.
