This is a problem with your ocean model run, not with netCDF. The model
is diverging ("blowing up"). As Steve Emmerson already noted, you just
happend to see it in the netCDF library first because the (wrong) values
you're trying to write out are too big.
Typical prolems to look for in MOM that cause this kind of thing: wrong
configuration, wrong input files, wrong parameters (time step, mixing,
etc). Finding and fixing a problem of this type can be very
time-consuming if you've not done it before.
