Howdy all!

Two new beta releases of the netcdf C/Fortran/C++ libraries are
available on the netCDF web site:
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf/

It is not necessary to get both releases.
The 4.0-beta2 release is fully backward compatible and contains all
the functionality of the 3.6.3 release. It is a drop-in replacement
for the netCDF 3.6.2 release. Get the 4.0 beta if you want to keep
using netCDF classic format, and also want to try new netCDF-4
features. To access the netCDF-4 features, correct versions of HDF5
and zlib must be installed. Everything is explained in the netCDF-4
installation instructions:
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf/netcdf-4/newdocs/netcdf-install/Quick-Instructions.html

The 4.0-beta2 release is the final beta before release of 4.0 in
June. See the release notes for more information, and links to all the
necessary tarballs:
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf/release-notes-4.0-beta.html

The 3.6.3 release is provided as a maintenance release for those who
do not want to upgrade to netCDF-4 yet. The 3.6.3 release contains the
latest core library code, without the netCDF-4 enhancements. Get this
release only if you know you will not be getting the 4.0 release.

For more details about this release see the release notes:
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf/release-notes-3.6.3-beta1.html

These beta releases have been tested on a variety of platforms. See
the builds page for more information:
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf/builds/

Please let us know how these releases worked at
support-netcdf@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

Thanks!

Ed

Ed: The web page says netcdf-4.0-beta2 requires 1.8.0-snap5, but it appears to work fine with 1.8.0. Is it really necessary to have snap5 or can the released version of hdf5 1.8.0 be used?
