[netcdfgroup] Write netcdf compound data

Hi netcdfgroup,

I am working on write netcdf compound data to a file.
I checked netcdf web site, and find info refer to compound data at:
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf/docs/netcdf-c/Compound-Types.html

It seems we can only write the compound data as a whole variable.

My question is: do we have a way to write one component of the compound data at 
a time?
