[netcdfgroup] Segmentation fault using netCDF binaries

Trying to compile NCO I came across this issue with Make:
/sw/netcdf/4.4.1/bin/ncgen -o big.nc big.cdl
make[2]: *** [big.nc] Segmentation fault

I then realized that the following commands were given Seg faults:

$/sw/netcdf/4.4.1/bin/ncgen
Segmentation fault
$/sw/netcdf/4.4.1/bin/ncdump
Segmentation fault
$/sw/netcdf/4.4.1/bin/nccopy
Segmentation fault

Is this because netCDF 4.4.1 has not been properly installed ?
