First, run md5sum on the netcdf file that doesn't work and compare it to
the md5sum on the machine/file that does work. The file could be damaged.
ncview scans through the file, so it may be encountering an error that the
other programs have not gotten to yet.
But the most likely thing is that the netcdf library on the machine that is
having the problem was compiled without options supporting the kind of
netcdf file you are trying to view. You might try running nc-config --all
on both the machine that works and the machine where it doesn't work and
comparing the output.
