Effective Monday, October 3, 1994 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time, the National Weather Service (NWS) will transfer short-fuse warning responsibility for 56 counties (Table 1) in Ohio (36), Indiana (8), and Kentucky (12) to the new Weather Service Office (WSO) at Wilmington (ILN) Ohio, from WSOs in Cincinnati (CVG), Dayton (DAY), Columbus (CMH), and Toledo (TOL), Ohio; Huntington (HTS), West Virginia; Fort Wayne (FWA), Indiana; Lexington (LEX), Kentucky; and the Weather Service Forecast Office (WSFO) in Indianapolis (IND), Indiana. WERNLY, CHIEF, WARNING AND FORECAST BRANCH SUBJECT: CHARLESTON, WV (CRW) WEATHER SERVICE FORECAST OFFICE'S SHORT-FUSE COUNTY WARNING AREA EXPANDS OCTOBER 3, 1994 THIS STATEMENT (ORIGINALLY TRANSMITTED JULY 27) HAS BEEN UPDATED TO INCLUDE FAYETTE COUNTY, WEST VIRGINIA IN THE LIST OF COUNTIES TRANSFERRED TO CRW (TABLE 1). ALL OTHER INFORMATION REMAINS THE SAME. Effective Monday, October 3, 1994 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time, the National Weather Service (NWS) will transfer short-fuse warning responsibility for 34 counties in West Virginia (16), southeast Ohio (9), northeast Kentucky (7), and southwest Virginia (2) (see Table 1) TO the Charleston, West Virginia (CRW), Weather Service Forecast Office (WSFO). These counties will be transferred FROM Weather Service Offices (WSO) in West Virginia (Huntington-HTS, Elkins-EKN, Beckley-BKW), Ohio (Columbus-CMH, Akron-CAK), and Tennessee (Bristol-TRI). For these counties, WSFO CRW will issue short-fuse warning products (Table 2) and related products that give follow-up information on the warnings (Table 3). For holders of NWS Operations Manual Chapter C-47, County Warning Areas, this statement is an amendment to the 35th update of 1994. Because of this county warning transfer, subscribers to the NOAA Weather Wire Service (NWWS) and the Family of Services (FOS) must take appropriate action to receive the short-fuse warnings and related products for these 34 counties using the CRW identifier (Tables 2 and 3) instead of the HTS, EKN, BKW, CMH, CAK, and TRI identifiers. For example, if you have been receiving severe thunderstorm warnings using the identifier CLESVRCMH you will have to change to CRWSVRCRW. The Universal Generic Codes (UGC), however, will remain unchanged (as shown in Table 1). TABLE 1: Counties transferred to CRW.
