SUBJECT: SHORT FUSE COUNTY WARNING AREA TRANSFER # 95-3: WAKEFIELD,
VIRGINIA WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE'S SHORT-FUSE COUNTY WARNING
AREA IS ESTABLISHED, EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 1, 1995

          ...PART 1 OF A 2-PART MESSAGE

Effective February 1, 1995, at 10 a.m., eastern standard time, the
National Weather Service (NWS) will transfer short-fuse warning
responsibility for 38 counties and fifteen independent cities in
southern and eastern Virginia (VA), nine counties in northeast North
Carolina (NC) and four counties in the Lower Maryland (MD) Eastern
Shore TO the Wakefield (AKQ), Virginia Weather Service Office (WSO).
Transfers will be from Weather Service Offices (WSO) in Norfolk (ORF)
VA, Richmond (RIC) VA, Baltimore (BWI) MD, Cape Hatteras (HAT) NC and
the Weather Service Forecast Office (WSFO) in Raleigh (RDU) NC.

For these counties, WSO AKQ will issue short-fuse warning
products (Table 2) and related products that give followup information
on the warnings (Table 3). For holders of the NWS Operations Manual
Chapter C-47, County Warning Areas, this is update #3 for 1995.

Because of this county warning transfer, subscribers to the NOAA
Weather Wire Service (NWWS) and the Family of Services (FOS) must take
appropriate action to receive the short-fuse warnings and related
products for these counties and cities using the AKQ identifier
(Tables 2 and 3) instead of the ORF, RIC, BWI, HAT and RDU
identifiers. The Universal Generic Codes (UGC), however, will remain
unchanged (as shown in Table 1).
