A FULL-SCALE, REAL-TIME... PREPAREDNESS EXERCISE... RESPONSE 95 WILL TEST AND EVALUATE FEDERAL... STATE AND LOCAL CAPABILITIES FOR RESPONDING TO A CATASTROPHIC HURRICANE. THE SCENARIO FOR THIS EXERCISE INCLUDES A HURRICANE STRIKING THE GULF COAST OF LOUISIANA AND MISSISSIPPI... INCLUDING THE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS. IN THE MAKING FOR THE PAST 14 MONTHS... THIS EXERCISE IS THE LARGEST NON-DEFENSE EXERCISE EVER BY FEMA. RESPONSE 95 WILL SIMULATE A CATEGORY FOUR HURRICANE THAT MOVES THROUGH THE GULF OF MEXICO AND MAKES LANDFALL NEAR NEW ORLEANS. SOME LIMITED EXERCISE PLAY WILL BEGIN ON THE MORNING OF MAY 4... 1995 AND SPINS UP TO FULL-SCALE EXERCISE PLAY ON THE MORNING OF MAY 9 AND CONTINUES THROUGH THE AFTERNOON OF MAY 11... 1995.
