The workshop will be given twice - the tentative dates are for one presentation on Tues. 12/5 from 3-5 PM and repeated (same presentation) on Wed. 12/6 from 3-5 PM. There will be 5 papers in the workshop, as follows (not necessarily in this order): Overview of METAR/TAF Implementation and details of the new METAR code (including comparison to SAO), given by Howard Diamond, NWS Office of Systems Operations. Overview of TAF Implementation and details of the new TAF code (including comparison to FT), given by Chris Alex, NWS Office of Meteorology. Overview of the ASOS METAR Present Weather Algorithm, given by Joe Fiore of Hughes STX Corporation and Doug Gifford, NWS Surface Observation Modernization Office. Overview of the ASOS METAR Sky and Visibility Algorithms, given by Doug Giffors, NWS Surface Observation Modernization Office and Joe Fiore, Hughes STX Corporation. The Effect of METAR and TAF on Pilots and the FAA, given by Terry Lankford, Flight Service Specialist, Oakland, CA FSS.
