The GOES-8 Spring 1997 eclipse period for the imager runs from
02/09/97 to 04/29/97; the corresponding period for the sounder runs
from 02/26/97 to 05/02/97.
The GOES-9 Spring 1997 eclipse period for the imager runs from
02/09/97 to 04/30/97; the corresponding period for the sounder runs
from 02/25/97 to 05/02/97.
Loss of data is denoted by KOZ or ECL. ECL represents the actual
eclipse period. GOES scanning is halted during KOZ periods to avert
solar intrusion on the radiometer. To minimize the impact to the user
community, full disk (FD) transmissions normally influenced by the KOZ
period, have been substituted with scans of the northern hemisphere.
To compensate for data loss during daily eclipse periods, effective
February 25, 1997, NESDIS plans to run full disk scanning from one
GOES satellite while the other is in eclipse.
Specifically, for the GOES-8 spring eclipse period, NESDIS plans to
run daily GOES-9 full disk scans from 0400 UTC to 0659 UTC; GOES-9
routine schedule resumes at 0700 UTC. GOES-9 full disk eclipse
support will extend through April 13, 1997.
For the GOES-9 spring eclipse period, NESDIS plans to run daily GOES-8
full disk scans from 0745 UTC to 1014 UTC; GOES-8 routine schedule
resumes at 1015 UTC. GOES-8 full disk eclipse support will extend
through April 12, 1997.
The eclipse schedule denoting times of GOES data loss will be updated
on a weekly basis.
