ZCZC WSHPNSNMC ALL TTAA00 KWSH DDHHMM NATIONAL TECHNICAL INFORMATION MESSAGE 97-27 NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HEADQUARTERS WASHINGTON DC 130 PM EDT WED OCT 15 1997 TO: NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE /NWS/ EMPLOYEES...NWS PRODUCT USERS FROM: LOUIS W. UCCELLINI...DIRECTOR...OFFICE OF METEOROLOGY SUBJECT: REDEPLOYMENT OF TWO WEATHER DATA BUOYS OFF THE TEXAS COAST...NEAR THE END OF OCTOBER 1997 THE WEATHER DATA BUOYS FOR STATIONS 42019 AND 42020 ARE BEING PREPARED FOR REDEPLOYMENT WITH FUNDS PROVIDED TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FROM NOAA. THESE STATIONS WERE PUT INTO PLACE ORIGINALLY FOR A NON-METEOROLOGICAL STUDY BY ANOTHER AGENCY. WHEN THESE STATIONS FAILED EARLY IN 1997...AND THERE WAS NO APPARENT SOURCE OF FUNDING TO CONTINUE SUPPORT...THESE STATIONS WERE REMOVED. WHEN THE BUOYS ARE REDEPLOYED...THE STATION LOCATIONS WILL BE APPROXIMATELY 20 NAUTICAL MILES CLOSER TO THE TEXAS COAST TO BE MORE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE NEAR-SHORE CONDITIONS. THE ACTUAL LOCATIONS WILL BE 27.90N 95.35W FOR STATION 42019 AND 26.90N 96.70W FOR STATION 42020. THESE NEW POSITIONS WILL PROVIDE THE NWS FORECASTERS WITH BETTER DATA FOR USE IN WARNINGS AND FORECASTS. THE BUOYS ARE TENTATIVELY SCHEDULED FOR DEPLOYMENT NEAR THE END OF OCTOBER. END NNNN
