PIERCE CHIEF-INTEGRATED HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL SERVICES CORE NWS OFFICE OF METEOROLOGY SUBJECT: BACKUP OF AVIATION WEATHER CENTER PRODUCTS SCHEDULED FROM 1300 UTC ON NOVEMBER 5 1997 UNTIL 1300 UTC ON NOVEMBER 6 1997 ...THE FOLLOWING CHANGES HAVE NO IMPACT ON NOAA WEATHER WIRE SUBSCRIBERS... ON NOVEMBER 5 1997...THE AIR FORCE GLOBAL WEATHER CENTER/AFGWC/AT OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE WILL ASSUME...IN A PLANNED BACK-UP TEST...FORECAST AND WARNING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE NON-CONVECTIVE AND CONVECTIVE SIGMETS, AND AIRMETS/SIERRA...ZULU...TANGO/ IN THE BOSTON FA AREA WHICH ARE NORMALLY PREPARED BY THE AVIATION WEATHER CENTER/AWC. THE BACK-UP WILL TAKE PLACE FOR THE 24-HOUR PERIOD BEGINNING AT 1300 UTC/0700CST. DURING THE BACK-UP TEST...AN AWC FORECASTER WILL BE ON DUTY AT AFGWC FOR EACH OF THE THREE SHIFTS. A FORECASTER AT THE AWC IN KANSAS CITY WILL ALSO BE COORDINATING CLOSELY WITH THE AFGWC FORECASTERS. AWC WILL BE ABLE TO RESUME FORECASTING SERVICES OR INTERVENE ANYTIME DURING THE TEST IF NECESSARY. DURING THE TEST THE AREA FORECAST/FA/WILL BE PREPARED AND TRANSMITTED BY THE FORECASTER ON DUTY AT AWC. THE AFGWC WILL PREPARE AND ISSUE AIRMET "S"...AFOS IDENTIFIER MKCWA1S/WMO HEADER WAUS1 KBOS AIRMET "T"...AFOS IDENTIFIER MKCWA1T/WMO HEADER WAUS1 KBOS AIRMET "Z"...AFOS IDENTIFIER MKCWA1Z/WMO HEADER WAUS1 KBOS NON-CONVECTIVE SIGMET...AFOS IDENTIFIER MKCWS1/WMO HEADER WSUS1 KBOS CONVECTIVE SIGMET...AFOS IDENTIFIER MKCWSTE/WMO HEADER WSUS40 KMKC THE AREA FORECASTS FOR BOSTON...AFOS IDENTIFIER MKCFA1W/WMO HEADER FAUS6 KBOS/WILL CONTINUE TO BE PREPARED AND TRANSMITTED BY THE AWC FORECASTERS IN KANSAS CITY. A REMINDER MESSAGE WILL BE APPENDED TO THE BOSTON AREA FORECAST ISSUED ON THE MIDNIGHT SHIFT THE NIGHT BEFORE THE TEST BEGINS. A SERIES OF TESTS WITH AFGWC IS PLANNED/ADDING ONE FA REGION PER MONTH. THE PLAN IS TO ADD MIAMI IN DECEMBER/CHICAGO IN JANUARY/FORT WORTH IN FEBRUARY/SALT LAKE CITY IN MARCH/AND SAN FRANCISCO IN APRIL. AT THAT TIME AFGWC WOULD HAVE THE CAPABILITY TO BACK UP ALL REQUIRED DOMESTIC NON-CONVECTIVE SIGMETS/CONVECTIVE SIGMETS/AND AIRMETS.
