Hurricane Bonnie is currently forecast to pass south and east of the Wallops Island, Virginia CDA, and the storm's winds should affect the station. The satellite antennas at Wallops are not rated to survive hurricane force winds. The operational antennas for GOES-E and GOES-W must be stowed when the sustained winds exceed 35 mph and are forecast to increase to over 50 mph. A smaller antenna has been positioned to GOES-E, and will continue operations as long as possible, if the normal antenna must be stowed. If the two primary antennas must be stowed, GOES-W data flow will be terminated until the storm passes the station. The current forecast would indicate that the stowing of antennas might not be required, but the actual storm track will be final in deciding the requirement to stow antennas.
