GOES-L LAUNCH INFORMATION THE NOAA GOES-L LAUNCH DATE IS NO EARLIER THAN THE END OF JULY... 1999. A FIRM DATE WILL BE ANNOUNCED PENDING RESULTS OF THE FAILURE REVIEW BOARD THAT WAS CONVENED AFTER THE MAY 4TH DELTA-III LAUNCH FAILURE. A FLIGHT CONSTRAINT REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE UPPER STAGE ENGINES WHICH ARE COMMON TO BOTH THE GOES AND DELTA-III LAUNCH VEHICLES. THE GOES-L SPACECRAFT WAS DEMATED FROM THE ROCKET AND RETURNED TO THE INITIAL INTEGRATION FACILITY ON JUNE 16... 1999 FOR GASEOUS NITROGEN PURGE OF SPACECRAFT COMPONENTS AND RECONDITIONING OF BATTERIES. ONCE THE ENGINE FLIGHT CONSTRAINT IS LIFTED... GOES-L WILL PICK UP THE LAUNCH COUNT AND RESTORE THE NORMAL LAUNCH PREPARATION FLOW. GOES-L WILL NOT BE LAUNCHED DURING THE FALL ECLIPSE SEASON... WHICH RUNS FROM MID AUGUST TO EARLY OCTOBER... BECAUSE THE SOLAR POWER ARRAY REQUIRES SUNLIGHT 24 HOURS A DAY FOR SEVERAL DAYS FOLLOWING LAUNCH. IF THE LAUNCH IS DELAYED BEYOND MID AUGUST... 1999...
