Thanks to Arnold Hori, University of Hawaii, for the following information! ---------- Forwarded Message ---------- Hi Linda; Here's a transcription of a copy of a message which was forwarded to Meteorology at the University of Hawaii. It is not a nws-change but it should be of interest to typhoon weather watchers of North Pacific cyclones. It was sent by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (US Navy & US Air Force center) which forecasts tropical systems for US interests in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. This message announces a change to their previous practice for applying names they select for the tropical storm systems. Since January 2000, they have stopped that and so any names given NW Pacific Ocean storms will be by a WMO Warning Agency using a list of names provided by Pacific nations. The message came along with the 1997 Annual Tropical Cyclone Report (their last one printed as a hardcopy publication) as well as the 1998 Annual Cyclone Report (published as a CDROM disc). The package also included a second CDROM disc with their Annual Tropical Cyclone Reports for 1959 to 1997.
