829 NOUS72 KNCF 211926 ADMNCF Attention: ESA, Lead Forecasters, and AWIPS Community. "DynCorp's Fall preventative maintenance (PM) schedule for SBN antennas is tentatively scheduled for the month of September. The proposed schedule is being sent to the regional offices for concurrence. In addition to the standard PM, Dyncorp will make a modification to the ComTech 3.8-meter Antenna feedhorn to elimate the problem of bees, wasps, and hornets building their nest in the feedhorn. This nest-building activity has lead to signal degradation at the sites with Comtech antennas. Dyncorp has developed a no-cost solution to the problem. The solution entails placing a plastic cover over the end of the waveguide. The cover is held securely in place by a metal band clamp. The plastic cover has been tested and it is resistant to UV radiation. The plastic cover has no efect on signal strength, so overall AWIPS SBN performance at Comtech sites will remain the same" Randy C./NCF/JCC ---------- End Forwarded Message ----------
