To all users of data from the Platteville, CO Profiler, The Wind Profiler located near Platteville, CO will be temporally unavailable for display on AWIPS, and as input to all NWS numerical models, for a period of about three weeks. This outage will begin one week from today, on Monday April 22, and will extend until about May 15 (although data will become available for subjective viewing on our web site much sooner). This outage will impact all data related to the operation of the Platteville 404 MHz Profiler, including winds, RASS temperature profiling, surface met, and GPS integrated precipitable water vapor measurements. We will make every effort to minimize the length of the downtime. The Profiler is being converted to the national operational frequency of 449 MHz, and upgraded to support the investigation of improved data processing. Further information is available on our Daily Status web page at http://www.profiler.noaa.gov/jsp/dailyStatus.jsp. Initial operation of the new system is expected approximately May 1, and the site enters a 10-14 day "checkout" period. Real-time data will be available for subjective viewing on our web site at http://www.profiler.noaa.gov/jsp/profiler.jsp, but data will not be available for display on AWIPS or as input to NWS numerical models for the duration of the "checkout" period. The following is a list of the NWS centers, offices, and other users included in this notification. If you know of others that should be notified, please forward this E-mail to them (and please copy me). I will use this list to notify users when Platteville starts operating again (available on our web site) and again when we "release" the site from checkout, making the data available on AWIPS and to the models again. 1.
