355 NOUS42 KWNO 250041 ADMNFD SPECIAL NCEP DISCUSSION CENTRAL OPERATIONS/NCEP/NWS/WASHINGTON DC 0030 UTC THU APR 25 2002 250030Z...THE PREVIOUS PROBLEM WITH RECEPTION OF SATELLITE DATA FROM FOB4 TO NCEP FOR PROCESSING FOR AWIPS AND NAWIPS USERS HAS RE-SURFACED..GOES 8 AND 10 DATA HAS BEEN LATE..MISSING OR CORRUPT SINCE 2130Z..AND METEOSAT DATA AND GMS DATA ARE ALSO IMPACTED..THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE HIGH SPEED T-3 COMMS CIRCUIT..SATELLITE RECEPTION HAS BEEN PLACED ON A BACKUP MICROWAVE SYSTEM..SO USERS CAN EXPECT UNSTABLE CONDITIONS UNTIL THE PRIMARY CIRCUIT IS BACK ONLINE..BUT USERS WHO GET THE DATA DIRECTLY FROM THE SATELLITE ARE NOT IMPACTED,, SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE AND WE WILL KEEP YOU INFORMED.. FYI...STARTING WITH THE 24/00Z CYCLE THE NCEP MRF MODEL IS NO LONGER BEING RUN...OUTPUT THAT IS LABELED AS MRF IS ACTUALLY FROM THE EARLIER EXTENDED RUN OF THE 00Z AVN OUT TO 384HRS WHICH EMPLOYS THE SAME MODEL RESOLUTION AND PHYSICS AS THE OLD MRF MODEL...THE ONLY DIFFERENCES ARE THE EARLIER 2+45 DATA CUTOFF AND SOONER..GREATER THAN HALF AN HOUR EARLIER..AVAILABILITY OF THIS EXTENDED NCEP GLOBAL FCST MODEL GUIDANCE... EXTENSIVE TESTING HAS REVEALED NO DEGRADATION IN FCST QUALITY. SMITH/SDM/NCO/NCEP NNNN Jeff Weber Unidata User Support
