################################################################### Output grids and bufr soundings from new 8km/60level HiResWindow test runs are now available on the new NCEP ftp server. These runs will replace the 10km/60level nested Meso Eta runs (aka Threats) in a month or so. The new HiResWindow runs are made at higher resolution than the current runs and are made with NCEP's Nonhydrostatic Meso Model (NMM see Janjic et al. 2001, Monthly Weather Review, Vol. 129, No.5, pages 1164-1178) using a hybrid (sigma/pressure) vertical coordinate with nonhydrostatic dynamics. Gridded output files in GRIB format can be found at ftp://ftpprd.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/emc/mmb/mmbpll/ in the following subdirectories: alaska10.t00z : 10-km Alaska Meso run from 00Z west08.t06z : 8-km Western US Meso run from 06Z central08.t12z : 8-km Central US Meso run from 12Z east08.t18z : 8 km Eastern US Meso run from 18Z hi08.t00z : 8-km Hawaii Meso run from 00Z hi08.t12z : 8-km Hawaii Meso run from 12Z pr08.t06z : 8-km Puerto Rico Meso run from 06Z pr08.t18z : 8-km Puerto Rico Meso run from 18Z GRIB files for all runs are called "AWPREGff.tm00", ff=00,03,06....48. The file "DATETIME" gives the cycle time of the forecast currently residing in the directory, and the subdiretory "bufrsnd" contains the hourly station sounding/surface data in BUFR format, broken out by station ID. The GRIB files for each domain use the same grid ID number as the grids from the nested Eta-10 runs. The text file ftp://ftpprd.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/emc/mmb/mmbpll/8kmgrids.specs gives the new specifications for the 8 km output grids. Eric Rogers has established a webpage displaying daily runs of each nest at http://www.emc.ncep.noaa.gov/mmb/mmbpll/nestpage.test/ ##################################################################### ###################################################################
