985 NOUS72 KNCF 121110 ADMNCF PLEASE PASS TO MIC, ESA, HIC, SOO OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS, THE NCF WILL BEGIN THE TRANSITION TO NEW LINUX-BASED SATELLITE BROADCAST NETWORK UPLINK SERVERS. THE NEW DEVICES WILL BRING GREATER RELIABILITY TO AWIPS SBN UPLINK AND WILL SERVE AS THE FIRST OF SEVERAL STEPS NEEDED TO IMPROVE PRODUCT DELIVERY TIME. THE TIMELINE FOR THIS UPGRADE IS AS FOLLOWS: JUNE 11NEW LINUX SERVERS POWERED UP AND CONNECTED AT ANCF, BUT UPLINK STILL ACCOMPLISHED BY HP-UX SERVERS. JUNE 124th CHANNEL UPLINK (NON-GOES DCP) MOVED TO NEW LINUX SERVER. JUNE 13GOES-W CHANNEL MOVED TO NEW LINUX SERVER. JUNE 17REMAINING CHANNELS MOVED TO NEW LINUX SERVERS. MOVING CHANNELS FROM THE HP-UX SERVERS TO THE NEW LINUX SERVERS SHOULD NOT CAUSE DATA LOSS OR INTERRUPTION OF UPLINK FOR MORE THAN 5 MINUTES FOR EACH CHANNEL TRANSITION. THERE WILL BE A TOTAL OF FOUR LINUX UPLINK SERVERS. EACH SERVER WILL UPLINK ONE CHANNEL. SHOULD ONE SERVER ENCOUNTER A PROBLEM, THE CHANNEL BEING UPLINKED FROM THAT SERVER WILL BE MOVED TO ANOTHER. IF IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO SPARE TO ANOTHER LINUX UPLINK SERVER, UPLINK WILL BE RETURNED TO AN HP-UX SERVER. TWO EXISTING HP-UX SERVERS WILL REMAIN IN THE NCF UNTIL ABOUT JUNE 27. NCF WILL BE MONITORING THIS UPGRADE CLOSELY AND WILL INFORM SITES IF ANY PROBLEMS ARE ENCOUNTERED. ---------- End Forwarded Message ----------
