---------- Forwarded Message ---------- MEMORANDUM FOR: Distribution E FROM: John H. Ward Chief, Production Management Branch SUBJECT: Changes to the NWS Production Suite There will be no memo issued the week of 25 November. There is currently a moratorium on changes to the Production Suite as parallel operations are being established on the next Central Computer System (CCS). No implementations will be scheduled during the moratorium, with the exception of changes required to correct operational problems. The moratorium is expected to extend through the normal holiday moratorium period, at the minimum. All major forecast model codes have been ported to the CCS. A log of problems encountered during the code conversion can be found in /com/logs/ccscodelog on the IBM SP. System acceptance began on Friday, 1 November. A majority of the forecast model systems are now running in real-time parallel on the CCS and will continue to be executed daily during the 30 day acceptance period. Data flow and ingest have not been established on the CCS, so data dumps from the IBM SP will be transferred to the CCS to support the real-time parallel runs. Data ingest is not expected to be established on the CCS until after the first of the year. More details on the CCS transition and moratorium will be provided as they become available. A preliminary list for 2003 can be found at: http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/changes As additional information about each implementation becomes available, links will be added on the change summary page. On 7 January 2003, the NESDIS GMS-5 water vapor and the IR winds will no longer be ingested into /dcom on the IBM SP. These data are no longer being assimilated by the models. When this change occurs the following files in /dcom on the IBM SP will no longer be populated with GMS-5 data: /dcom/us007003/YYYYMMDD/b005/xx050 /dcom/us007003/YYYYMMDD/b005/xx051 To unsubscribe from the JIF memo use the link provided at: http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/jifmemo/ * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * <snip> URL: http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/staff/lmiller/un.act.html
