---------- Forwarded Message ---------- -> John Ward <wd22jw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> writes: December 13, 2000 MEMORANDUM FOR: Distribution E FROM: John H. Ward Chief, Production Management Branch SUBJECT: Changes to the NWS Production Suite On 7 January 2003, the NESDIS GMS-5 water vapor and the IR winds will no longer be ingested into /dcom on the IBM SP. These data are no longer being assimilated by the models. When this change occurs the following files in /dcom on the IBM SP will no longer be populated with GMS-5 data: /dcom/us007003/YYYYMMDD/b005/xx050 /dcom/us007003/YYYYMMDD/b005/xx051 There is currently a moratorium on changes to the Production Suite as parallel operations are being established on the next Central Computer System (CCS). No implementations will be scheduled during the moratorium, with the exception of changes required to correct operational problems. The moratorium is expected to extend through the normal holiday moratorium period, at the minimum. All major forecast model codes have been ported to the CCS. System acceptance was successfully completed on 1 December. All forecast model systems, with the exception of the Climate Suite, are now running in real-time parallel on the CCS. Data flow and ingest have been established and real-time data are being utilized for model initialization. More details on the CCS transition and moratorium will be provided as they become available. General users can expect access to the CCS by 18 December. User account and password information will be the same on the CCS as on the IBM SP. An on-line user guide for code conversion to the CCS is available on the NCEP internal WEB server at: http://www2.ncep.noaa.gov/NCO/PMB/nwprod/ccs_guide/ The guide will be continually updated as new features or problems with the code conversion are uncovered. Migration of user data from the IBM SP to the CCS began on 12 December and is expected to be completed by 18 December. During December and January user access to the CCS may be interrupted for testing and minor system configuration changes. Whenever possible, prior notice of system downtime or unavailability will be provided. A preliminary list for 2003 can be found at: http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/changes As additional information about each implementation becomes available, links will be added on the change summary page. <snip> ---------- End Forwarded Message ----------
