Topic: NESDIS World Weather Building DNS Changes Message Issued: July 12, 2004, 1700 UTC Satellites Impacted: None Products Impacted: All NESDIS Servers using the "wwb.noaa.gov" DNS Address Date/Time of Initial Impact: August 23, 2004 -------------------------- Details: Due to a change in the DNS (Domain Name Server) equipment within the World Weather Building effective August 23, 2004, users who access some of NESDIS' Satellite Services Division servers and web sites may need to make changes in order to continue receipt of products and images. When all of SSD's systems and networks are migrated to the new DNS system, any references to -- wwb.noaa.gov -- must be changed to -- ssd.nesdis.noaa.gov -- In preparation for the migration, users should assess this impact and develop a list of changes that will be needed after the migration to eliminate references to wwb.noaa.gov. This would include changing configuration files such as .rhosts, .netrc and scripts as appropriate. This work should be started by users now. For example, if external customers are accessing the SSD systems within scripts or bookmarks or any other method, using the <hostname>.wwb.noaa.gov domain, this will no longer work as of 8/23/2004. External system should be modified to advertise and re-direct customers to the <hostname>.ssd.nesdis.noaa.gov domain. For example, our anonymous web and ftp server of -- gp16.wwb.noaa.gov -- can now be accessed at -- gp16.ssd.nesdis.noaa.gov -- Any McIDAS users who are pointing to SSD servers to access satellite imagery using any wwb.noaa.gov (such as gp4, gp10, etc...) references must change as well to the ssd.nesdis.noaa.gov configuration. --------------------------- Contact Information: Brian Hughes / Tom Renkevens Satellite Services Division NOAA/NESDIS/OSDPD 301-763-8051 x106 / x109 Brian.Hughes@xxxxxxxx Thomas.Renkevens@xxxxxxxx See http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/SATS/messages.html for this and other satellite related messages.
