Topic: GOES-9 Imager Patch Temperature Change Message Issued: August 17, 2004, 1230 UTC Satellites Impacted: GOES-9 Products Impacted: GOES-9 Imager Products Date/Time of Initial Impact: August 19, 2004 1225 UTC ----------------------------------------- Details: The following was received from OSO/SOCC concerning the GOES-9 Imager: On August 19, 2004, SOCC Engineers will change the GOES-9 Imager patch temperature from its MID set point (101 K) to its LOW setpoint (94 K) at about 12:25 UTC (08:25 ET). The change will be done during keep out zone time and prior to eclipse to minimize the impact on users. The temperature transition will take approximately 4 hours. The users may see very slight data degradation (venetian blinding) in the first few frames after the KOZ until the patch temperature stabilizes at its new setpoint. The signal to noise ratio will improve as a result of operation at a lower patch (detector) temperature. The patch will be controlled at this temperature (94 K) until October 2004 when it will be switched back to MID setting during the autumn eclipse/KOZ season. MBCC will also be turned off at the time of the patch temp change and will be turned back on approximately two days later. ------------------------------------------ Contact Information: Brian Hughes Satellite Services Division NOAA/NESDIS/OSDPD 301-763-8051 x106 brian.hughes@xxxxxxxx See http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/SATS/messages.html for this and other satellite related messages.
