EMERGENCY MANAGERS WEATHER INFORMATION NETWORK /EMWIN/ NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE /NWS/ CUSTOMERS... WAFS USERS... GTS USERS... NWS FAX CHART USERS FROM RTH WASHINGTON DATA MANAGEMENT On January 23rd and 24th 1500 UTC the ICAO 30 hour TAF format will be tested. This testing is in response to a limited amount of users that have a need for the 30 hour TAF. There are several different formats that are being tested and evaluated by the users. Below is an example of the next test format of a 30 hour TAF. This test will follow the proposed ICAO 30 hour TAF. The ICAO 30 hour TAF would extend the current 24 hour TAF out to 30 hours. However since the user may not be aware of what date a change is taking place...the date would be included in every line. FTXX90 KWBC 121150 TAF KXYZ 181130Z 18121918 08008KT P6SM SCT070 BKN250 FM182000 12008KT P6SM BKN150 TEMPO 18221902 BKN070 FM190200 15005KT P6SM BKN050 OVC100 PROB30 19061910 12010KT P6SM FEW005 OVC025 FM191500 32007KT P6SM SKC So in the above example... -FTXX90 is the test message -TAF is representing a 30 hour aviation forecast -KXYZ is a dummy station -In the first line of the example, the TAF was issued by the NWS office at 1130Z onthe 18th. 18121918 means the forecast is valid the 18th at 1200 GMT thru the 19th at
1800 GMT - In the second line the FROM group is valid the 18th at 2000 GMT-In the third line the TEMPO group is valid the 18th at 2200 GMT thru the 19th at 0200 GMT
- In the 4th line the FROM group is valid the 19th at 0200 GMT - In the 5th line the PROB group is valid the 19th 0600 GMT thru the 19th at 1000 GMT - In the 6th line the FROM group is valid the 19th at 1500 GMT Once again, the test date is Jan 23rd and 24th at 1500 UTC. To be included in this test and to provide feedback on how your software was able to handle...or not able to handle the proposed ICAO 30 hour format...please contact: Mike Graf Aviation Services Branch NWSH 301-713-1726 X 117 Or by email, Michael.graf@xxxxxxxxAlso in review...the XTF format was sent out in November. The XTF product added a 6 hour
component beyond the normal 24 hour TAF...rather than do a 30 hour TAF. This productlooks like a current 24 hour TAF...but covered the 24-30 hour window beyond the normal
24 hour TAF. The XTF was sent out under the WMO ID of XTF. The XTF is intended for long haul airlines that need an additional 6 hours of aviation forecasts in a TAFformat. Meanwhile...rather than add 6 hours to the current 24 hour TAF format... entailing
coding changes by many users...the XTF attempts to simplify the issue by not changingthe current 24 hour TAF. Instead, a new product is added that is decoded like a normal
TAF. This means users that don't have a interest in the 30 hour TAF...can continue to receive a 24 hour TAF...with no change. For review purposes, a sample XTF is below. FTXX90 KWBC 121150 XTF KXYZ 121138Z 131218 08005KT P6SM BKN020 So in the above example... -FTXX90 is the test message -XTF is the new 24 to 30 hour portion that goes beyond of a normal 24 hour TAF -KXYZ is a dummy station -In this example, the XTF was issued by the NWS office at 1138Z on the 12th. But covers the valid period from 12-18Z on the 13th. -No changes to the software coding of the current TAF FOR FOS/NOAAPORT AND NON-AWIPS CUSTOMERS - IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING ROUTING OR WOULD LIKE TO ADD THESE PRODUCTS TO YOUR DATASTREAM PLEASE CONTACT.
