Topic: Meteosat-8 (MSG) to Meteosat-9 (MSG-2) Transition
Message Issued: April 3, 2007 1800 UTC
Satellites Impacted: Meteosat-8 (MSG) and Meteosat-9 (MSG-2)
Products Impacted: All Products from Meteosat-8 (MSG)
Date/Time of Initial Impact: April 11, 2007 13:00 UTC
-----------------------------------------

On April 11, 2007 at 13:00 UTC, EUMETSAT is planning on transitioning 0
degree operation from the current Meteosat-8 (MSG) to Meteosat-9
(MSG-2). Users of the U.S. DOMSAT broadcast of the encrypted Meteosat-8
data will begin receiving Meteosat-9 data at that time. Meteosat
products in BUFR or GRIB2 will be broadcasted in parallel through the
GTS until May 10, 2007.

NOAA has requested information from EUMETSAT regarding changes, if any,
to the Station Key Units (SKU) to be made prior to the transition from
Meteosat-8 to Meteosat-9. A decision about these registration keys will
be made by EUMETSAT by Friday, April 6. Changes, if any, to the
registration keys should be transparent to DOMSAT users as these new
keys will be rebroadcasted through the U.S. DOMSAT uplink at Wallops
Island, VA. Users experiencing problems after the transition are urged
to contact NOAA at the address below.

EUMETSAT has indicated that on April 11, 2007, the 12:45 UTC image will
be interrupted and service between 13:00 and 15:00 UTC will have a high
risk of interruption.

Full details on the transition, including specific information about the
meteorological products, can be obtained at the following web sites:
