PIERCE CHIEF...MARINE AND COASTAL SERVICES BRANCHSUBJECT:CHANGE TO ISSUANCE CRITERIA FOR TROPICAL CYCLONE WATCHES AND WARNINGS ISSUED BY THE CENTRAL PACIFIC HURRICANE CENTER /CPHC/: EFFECTIVE JUNE 1 2009 EFFECTIVE JUNE 1 2009 THE CPHC WILL PROVIDE MORE ADVANCE NOTICE OF CENTRAL PACIFIC TROPICAL CYCLONE WATCHES AND WARNINGS AS FOLLOWS:
WATCHES: TROPICAL STORM/HURRICANE WATCHES WILL BE ISSUED IF TROPICAL STORM/HURRICANE CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE WITHIN 48 HOURS /PREVIOUSLY 36 HOURS/. WARNINGS: TROPICAL STORM/HURRICANE WARNINGS WILL BE ISSUED IF TROPICAL STORM/HURRICANE CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED WITHIN 36 HOURS /PREVIOUSLY 24 HOURS/.
TROPICAL CYCLONE WATCHES AND WARNINGS FOR THE CENTRAL PACIFIC HURRICANE BASIN ARE ISSUED IN THE FOLLOWING FORECAST PRODUCTS:
PRODUCT TYPE LINE AWIPS ID/S WMO HEADINGS TROPICAL CYCLONE PUBLIC ADVISORY TCPCP1-5 WTPA31-35 PHFO TROPICAL CYCLONE FORECAST/ADVISORY TCMCP1-5 WTPA21-25 PHFO TROPICAL CYCLONE WATCH/WARNING TCVCP1-5 WTPA81-85 PHFOTHERE ARE NO CHANGES TO THE AWIPS IDENTIFIERS...WMO PRODUCT HEADINGS OR PRODUCT ISSUANCE TIMES FOR THE ABOVE PRODUCTS. THE CPHC IS RESPONSIBLE FOR METEOROLOGICAL DECISIONS CONCERNING FORECASTING OF TROPICAL AND SUBTROPICAL SYSTEMS FOR THE PACIFIC OCEAN NORTH OF THE EQUATOR FROM 140 DEGREES WEST TO 180 DEGREES WEST LONGITUDE.
