30 July 2009 09:00-09:30 UTCEUMETSAT intends to replace the present operational radiative transfer model, used within the Meteosat-8 and Meteosat-9 meteorological product derivation. The main user impact of this change is a marked increase in the number of detected possible and probable fires in the Active Fire Monitoring (FIR) product. In addition, there is a small improvement in the cloud detection, especially for pixels that were unclassified before and for pixels over the ocean towards the limb of the Meteosat processing area.
***UPDATED***The introduction of the BUFR edition 4 for the encoding of the relevant Meteosat-8 and Meteosat-9 products is delayed until further notice.
METEOSAT RSS 28 July-30 July 2009 09:00-09:00 UTC Monthly RSS interruptionRapid Scanning Service will be suspended for scheduled full earth scanning and Ground Segment maintenance.
