-------- Original Message --------Update: *Another issue has begun to impact the sounding products. The GOES-12 Sounder noise is still a problem but now we also have a Sounding filter wheel problem that is affecting all channels. The GOES-12 Sounder Filter Wheel has been having a product impact since 20:00 UTC last night (DOY: 350, 12/16/09). Overnight, the FW returned to normal for a while and later the problem became more severe during 01:00-04:00 and 08:00-10:00 UTC with the worst product impact during 03:00 and 08:00. Products seem to be severely affected only about 2-3 hours per day during the last 24 hours. This degradation that is being observed is mainly due to dropouts in the images or dead pixels, about 15% of the pixels are dead. The products that we are sending out have not been affected other than less retrievals due to the dead pixels, but the retrievals that are being produced are good, we are not seeing an affect in the quality of our products other than the images having the dropouts appearing intermittently throughout the day.*
