OTHER USERS OF NWS AVIATION FORECASTS FROM: CYNTHIA ABELMANCHIEF... AVIATION SERVICES BRANCH SUBJECT: 2010 COLLABORATIVE CONVECTIVE FORECAST PRODUCT /CCFP/ CHANGES AND PRODUCTION SCHEDULE: EFFECTIVE MARCH 01 2010
NOTE: THE FOLLOWING CHANGES HAVE NO IMPACT ON NOAA WEATHER WIRE SUBSCRIBERSSTART TIME FOR THE INITIAL 2010 CCFP IS 0300 EST ON MONDAY MARCH 1 2010. FORECASTS WILL BE ISSUED EVERY 2 HOURS AND CONTAIN A FORECAST VALID FOR 2...4 AND 6 HOURS. FORECASTS WILL COINCIDE WITH THE ATCSCC STRATEGIC PLANNING TEAM TELCONS...ISSUED DAILY BEGINNING AT 0300...AND CONCLUDING AT 2100 EASTERN TIME. THE CONCLUDING FORECAST FOR THE 2010 CONVECTIVE SEASON WILL BE MADE ON SATURDAY OCTOBER 30 2010 AT 1900 EDT.
CCFP PRODUCTION SYSTEM TESTING WILL OCCUR ON FEBRUARY 25 AND 26 2010 AT 0900...1100 AND 1300 EST. TESTING WILL INCLUDE OPENING THE CHAT AND TRANSMISSION OF NULL ASCII CODED MESSAGES. ECHO TOPS FORECASTS WILL INCREASE TO 4 CLASSES FROM THE CURRENT 3 CLASSES.
THE PROPOSED NEW TOPS FORECAST CLASSES DENOTED BY 25,000 - 29,000 FEET MSL 290 30,000 - 34,000 FEET MSL 340 35,000 - 39,000 FEET MSL 390 AT OR ABOVE 40,000 FEET MSL 400-SPARSE COVERAGE SHALL BE DEFINED AS 25-39% /VERSUS 25-49% CURRENTLY/. -MEDIUM COVERAGE SHALL BE DEFINED AS 40-74% /VERSUS 50-74% CURRENTLY/.
-HIGH COVERAGE OF 75-100% WILL REMAIN UNCHANGED.LINES WILL BE DISPLAYED ALONE OR WITHIN AN AREA OF COVERAGE. HIGH COVERAGE LINES WILL BE DISPLAYED AS A SOLID PURPLE LINE. MEDIUM COVERAGE LINES WILL BE DISPLAYED AS A DASHED PURPLE LINE.
TEXT BOXES WILL BE ELIMINATED. THE INFORMATION FORMERLY CONTAINED IN TEXT BOXES WILL BE INCORPORATED INTO THE CCFP POLYGONS. THE CURRENT SYMBOLS FOR GROWTH RATES WILL BE REPLACED BY AN UP ARROW FOR INCREASING AND A DOWN ARROW FOR DECREASING. FAST POSITIVE GROWTH TREND WILL BE ELIMINATED. THESE SYMBOLS WILL BE PLACED WITHIN THE INTERIOR OF EACH CCFP POLYGON. IF THE FORECAST IS FOR /NO CHANGE/ THEN NO SYMBOL FOR THIS ATTRIBUTE WILL BE PLACED IN THE POLYGON.
COVERAGE: CONVECTIVE COVERAGE SHALL BE REPRESENTED WITHIN THE INTERIOR OF EACH POLYGON AS CURRENTLY PRESCRIBED EXCEPT FOR THE INCLUSION OF MEDIUM COVERAGE LINES
THE CCFP IS AVAILABLE VIA THE NWS TELECOMMUNICATIONS GATEWAY CIRCUIT IN AN ASCII CODED TEXT FORMAT UNDER THE FOLLOWING WMO COMMUNICATIONS HEADERS.
