The following changes have no impact on NOAA Weather Wire Service Subscribers This amends a previous TIN 10-51 to note the FIP Potential Icing Forecast Product has changed to a probability icing forecast product Effective Tuesday, January 18 2011 at 1300 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), the NWS Aviation Weather Center (AWC) in Kansas City, MO, will convert the gridded Forecast Icing Severity (FIS) from experimental to operational status. The FIS provides forecasts for the potential occurrence of aircraft icing. In addition the FIP Potential Icing Forecast Product has changed to a Probability Icing Forecast Product. See the link below for details on GRIB file changes. http://aviationweather.gov/notice/fip_severity.php The FIS domain covers the contiguous 48 United States and adjacent coastal waters in 1000 foot increments between 1000 and 30,000 feet above Mean Sea Level. The FIS is a forecast extension of the current icing severity (CIP) product and predicts the icing severity out to 12 hours. Forecast hours include H+01, H+02, H+03, H+06, H+09, and H+12. The FIP is produced automatically from the 20 km Rapid Update Cycle (RUC) model runs. The WMO Headings for the FIP Icing Severity are as follows.
