Pierce Marine and Coastal Services Branch Chief Subject: Tropical Cyclone Storm Surge Probabilities (2 Through 25 Feet) Become Operational in the National Digital Guidance Database (NDGD): Effective June 1, 2011 Effective June 1, 2011, the tropical cyclone probabilities of storm surge greater then 2 through 25 feet, at one foot intervals, will become operational in the NDGD. The products will only be available when a hurricane watch or warning are in effect for the Atlantic or Gulf coasts of the continental United States. The directory containing the GRIB2 files will change from: ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/SL.us008001/ST.expr/DF.gr2/DC.ndgd/GT.sl osh/AR.conus/ To (effective on June 1, 2011): ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/SL.us008001/ST.opnl/DF.gr2/DC.ndgd/GT.sl osh/AR.conus/ There is no change in the naming of the GRIB2 files. The GRIB2 file names of ds.psurgeabvNN.bin will continue to be used where NN is the probability of greater then 2 through 25 feet at 1 foot intervals. If June 1, 2011, is declared a Critical Weather Day by the National Centers for Environmental Prediction, this implementation date will be postponed. Users will be notified of that decision via another Service Change Notice and a new implementation date will be established.
